Compass Mentors

You can volunteer to be a mentor for students in our Compass program. We explain how it works.

Overview

  • Our program matches students with professionals in careers that interest them.
  • The professionals agree to mentor a student for one semester (18 weeks).

Time commitment

You must commit to mentor a student for one semester (18 weeks) to:

  • Meet with them on-line or in-person once a month.
  • Exchange emails and texts with them, as needed.
  • Attend Compass events.

You can expect to spend 3 to 4 hours per semester at Compass events.

What mentors do

Help a student learn about being in a career like yours, including:

  • Sharing information about your career and career path.
  • Having them shadow you at work.
  • Introducing them to other professionals in your network.
  • Provide feedback and tips on things like:
    • LinkedIn profiles.
    • Job interview skills.
    • Resumes.
  • Offering encouragement and support.
