Schedule Changes
We explain the rules and process for requesting a change to your class schedule.
Request a change before the new term begins
You can request schedule changes until 3:20 p.m. on the last school day before a new term begins.
Valid reasons to request a schedule change
- There's a mistake in your schedule.
- You want to take a different class and there's space available.
- Your schedule is unbalanced — too many hard classes in one term.
- You need to:
- Complete a required graduation class.
- Take a prerequisite before a course.
- Retake a class you did not pass.
After the new term begins
We generally don't allow class changes after the term begins. In some cases, we do allow a class-level change.
Class-level changes
You may request a course-level change if the current level is not the right fit. For example, you may move from an Honors class to a regular-level class.
If you enroll in an Advanced Placement (AP) course we expect you to remain in the course for the full school year. Schedule changes are only approved in rare cases.
Follow these steps to request a course-level change
- Start the conversation with your teacher.
- Make sure all your work is up to date in your current class.
- Discuss the change in a meeting with your teacher, parent/guardian and counselor.
- If everyone agrees to the change, work with your counselor to make it official.
You should know
- The grade you have at the time of the switch will follow you to your new class.
- You’re responsible for:
- Making up missed work.
- Showing you understand the material covered before the change.
