Advanced Placement (AP) subject tests are optional for all students in grades 9-12.

• Typically, students who are taking an AP course take the corresponding test.
• Tests are scored on a scale of one to five. 
• A score of three or above may make the student eligible for college credit. Each college or university has its own policy.
• Students who receive a score of two are considered college-ready.

All exams are:

• Delivered in a digital format using Bluebook and the student iPad.
• Administered by outside proctors.
• Given on a specific date at a specific time as directed by the College Board.
• Tests typically run 3 to 4 hours.
• All students must:
  • Stay in the testing room for the full test time, even if you finish early. Be sure to arrange schedules and transportation accordingly.
  • Turn in all electronic devices to the proctor prior to the tests.

Register by November 1 for tests for:

• Term 1 classes.
• Semester 1 classes.
• Independent study courses.

Register by March 1 for tests for:

• Term 2, 3 an 4 classes.
• Semester 2 classes.

When you start your AP course, your teacher will:

• Help you activate a College Board account.
• Give you a Join Code. 

The Join Code allows you to:

• Enroll in your specific class section.
• Order an AP test.
• Unlock access to digital learning materials.

Use the online Total Registration Form to register for the test.

Test fees

• $85 for each standard exam
• $125 for each AP seminar or research

Students eligible for free and reduced lunch (FRL) students pay:

• $10 for each standard AP exam
• $25 for each AP seminar or research

There is also a one-time:

• $10 administration fee
• $5 facility use fee

Refunds

• We give you a full refund if your cancel your exam by November 1.
• After March 15, there are no refunds.

• The accommodations approved for you by the College Board are built into the digital test. 
  • They cannot be changed or declined on test day.
  • If you no longer want to use an approved accommodation, contact your counselor or case manager as soon as possible.
• If you do not have College Board-approved accommodations and want them, request them by the end of August.
