Wayzata High School is a four-year comprehensive high school:

• With approximately 4,000 students.
• Located 10 miles west of Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Our school district:

• Covers 38 square miles.
• Has 74,015 residents.
• Includes all or part of eight municipalities: Corcoran, Maple Grove, Medicine Lake, Medina, Minnetonka, Orono, Plymouth, Wayzata.

Wayzata High School students need 60 credits to graduate.

• 8 credits each in English, Math, Social Studies and Science
• 2 credits each in Art and Physical Education
• 1 Health credit
• 23 elective credits

High-school level courses taken in middle school do not appear on student transcripts. They are used for placement into higher level courses when a student starts high school.

• Courses are assigned grades and credits at the end of each nine-week term.
• We calculate unweighted and weighted GPAs. 
• We do not report class rank.

All courses are assigned whole number points on the 4-point system.

• N = no credit and does not impact the GPA.
• T = test out into a higher level course and does not impact GPA.
• W = withdrew from the course and does not impact GPA.

AP courses are assigned regular grades, but receive one additional GPA point for each letter grade of C- and above.

• We divide the school day into a four-period block schedule. Each period is 90 minutes.
• We divide the school year into four nine-week terms.
• Each course earns one credit per term. A two-term course is equal to a full-year course in a standard schedule.

English

• Freshmen: 9th Grade English or Honors 9th Grade English
• Sophomores: 10th Grade English or Honors 10th Grade English
• Juniors and Seniors choose from a variety of English classes.
  • Students must choose one course designated as “A” and one designated as “B” to meet required state standards.
  • All English courses have a writing component.

Mathematics

The mathematics course sequence is as follows.

• Intermediate Algebra
• Geometry or Accelerated Geometry
• Algebra 2 or Accelerated Algebra 2
• Precalculus or Accelerated Precalculus or AP Precalculus
• Calculus Concepts or AP Calculus A and AP Calculus B

Science

The science course sequence is as follows.

• Freshmen: Physical Science or Enriched Physical Science
• Sophomores: Biology or AP Biology, Biomedical Biology
• Juniors and Seniors: Chemistry or Physics is required in addition to science electives

Social Studies

• Freshmen: Government and Citizenship or Honors Government and Citizenship
• Sophomores: World History, AP World or AP European
• Juniors: US History or AP US History
• Seniors: Economics: An Applied Public Policy and Social Science Analysis
